What E41 / E43 / E45 / E47 / E48 / E4A (417-prefix) Means
The E4 group on 417-prefix Kenmore front-loaders all concern the door lock circuit: E41 for a door the control reads as open, E43, E45, E48 and E4A for faults in the lock circuit generally, and E47 for that circuit going open specifically during spin.
Common Causes of E41 / E43 / E45 / E47 / E48 / E4A (417-prefix)
- A trapped item holding the door fractionally open
- A failed door lock assembly
- A chafed or intermittently open wire in the lock harness
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Close the door firmly and check the boot seal for a trapped garment; if E47 is the one showing, mention that it happens at spin, because a circuit that fails under vibration points at wiring rather than the lock body.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The lock harness is live whenever the cord is connected, and it runs behind the front panel beside the pump.
- A fault that only appears under spin vibration is easy to miss on a bench test and needs patience rather than a parts swap.
- Front panel removal to reach the lock may affect any coverage you still hold — check the terms first.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
