What E1 / E2 / E3 (110 / Whirlpool-built electronic control) Means
The earlier Whirlpool-built electronic-control Kenmore dryers under 110-prefix numbers use a short code set: E1 and E2 both report the thermistor as failed, and E3 reports the user interface and main control board as mismatched after a replacement part.
Common Causes of E1 / E2 / E3 (110 / Whirlpool-built electronic control)
- A thermistor out of its resistance range
- Broken wiring in the thermistor circuit
- A console or control part fitted from a different model
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For E3, check the part numbers of both console components against the list for your model; for E1 or E2, clean the lint screen and vent thoroughly before assuming the sensor is at fault.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Shut off the gas at the appliance valve on gas models, and cut power at the breaker on all of them, before any panel is disturbed.
- The thermistor sits in the hot air path, where the surrounding metal stays hot well after a cycle ends.
- A mismatched control part cannot be reprogrammed into agreement; the correct part is the only route.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
