What C6 / C7 / C8 / Cup Open / PF (362 and 363 prefix) Means
The remaining C-codes on 362- and 363-prefix Kenmore dishwashers: C6 for incoming water too cold, C7 for the water temperature sensor itself, C8 for a blocked detergent dispenser cover, Cup Open for a cover simply left open, and PF for a power failure during a cycle.
Common Causes of C6 / C7 / C8 / Cup Open / PF (362 and 363 prefix)
- An item in the lower rack blocking the dispenser cover
- Water arriving below the temperature the cycle needs
- A temperature sensor out of specification, or a household power interruption
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For C8 and Cup Open, remove whatever is stopping the dispenser cover closing — a tall item in the lower rack leaning against it is the usual answer; for C6, run the kitchen hot tap before starting a cycle.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Forcing a dispenser cover shut against an obstruction cracks the latch and turns a loading habit into a parts order.
- The temperature sensor sits in the tub base wired to the control, so it is not reached with the breaker on.
- PF is informational rather than a fault, so there is nothing inside the machine to repair for it.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
