What FL / LO / ds (402-prefix) Means
The 402-prefix Kenmore front-loader counts its attempts: FL means the door failed to lock after seven tries, LO means it failed to unlock after seven, and ds means the control saw the door open while it was trying to lock it.
Common Causes of FL / LO / ds (402-prefix)
- An item trapped in the door seal holding the door open
- A worn door catch no longer meeting the lock squarely
- A failed door lock assembly or its wiring
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clear the door boot of any trapped laundry and close the door firmly; for a door that will not release, unplug the machine for a few minutes before trying again.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Forcing a door that failed to unlock breaks the lock and often the hinge, turning one part into several.
- The lock wiring runs behind the front panel beside the pump, so it is isolated before anyone reaches in.
- On this platform the door lock is a model-specific part, so a generic replacement is not an option.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
