What F3 E1 / F3 E3 (110 / Whirlpool-built VMAX) Means
The Whirlpool-built VMAX dryer carries two temperature sensors and reports them separately: F3 E1 for the exhaust thermistor that watches air leaving the drum, and F3 E3 for the inlet thermistor that watches air entering it.
Common Causes of F3 E1 / F3 E3 (110 / Whirlpool-built VMAX)
- A thermistor drifted outside its resistance range
- A broken or disconnected wire in the thermistor harness
- A blocked exhaust making real temperatures behave abnormally
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Clear the lint screen completely and check the vent run behind the machine — a badly restricted vent skews both readings and can prompt a thermistor complaint on healthy sensors.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- On a gas dryer, shut off the gas at the appliance valve before any panel is removed, and cut power at the breaker on every model.
- Both thermistors sit in the airflow path beside the heat source, which stays hot long after a cycle ends.
- A sensor replaced while the vent is still blocked reproduces the same abnormal readings.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
