What PS / tE4 / Add Water (796 / LG-built steam) Means
Three displays specific to the LG-built 796-prefix Kenmore steam dryer: PS reports a power supply problem, usually the cord not correctly connected at the back of an electric model; tE4 reports the steam generator thermistor as failed; and Add Water simply means the steam feeder has run dry.
Common Causes of PS / tE4 / Add Water (796 / LG-built steam)
- A steam feeder that has simply emptied
- A power cord not correctly landed on the terminal block
- A steam generator thermistor out of specification
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Add Water is a refill, not a repair — top up the steam feeder and carry on. For PS, check the dryer's breaker fully off and on before anything else.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Terminal block work on a 240-volt dryer circuit belongs to an electrician, not to an owner with a screwdriver.
- The steam generator holds water well above boiling point and is left to cool before anything is opened.
- Running the steam function with a dry feeder gives the generator nothing to work with.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
