What Ex21 / Ex22 / Ex31 / Ex32 / Ex45 (Kenmore compact condensing) Means
The compact condensing Kenmore dryer — the ventless kind common in apartments — uses an Ex code family of its own: Ex21 and Ex22 for the condensate drain pump, Ex31 and Ex32 for the humidity sensor, and Ex45 for a door the control reads as open.
Common Causes of Ex21 / Ex22 / Ex31 / Ex32 / Ex45 (Kenmore compact condensing)
- A condensate drain pump blocked or failed
- A humidity sensor or its wiring no longer reporting
- A door catch worn enough that the switch never closes
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For Ex45, close the door firmly and check the catch; for the pump codes, check the condensate hose for a kink where the machine sits close to a wall.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Cut power at the breaker before any panel is opened; a condensing dryer holds water as part of normal operation.
- Compact condensing parts are model-specific and do not cross over from full-size Kenmore dryers.
- A pump fitted while the hose is kinked will not move water any better than the one removed.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
