Kenmore’s UltraWash and UltraWash Plus systems rely on multiple wash arms and a flow-monitoring sensor to decide when a cycle is actually clean enough to move to the next stage. When that decision-making loop gets interrupted, the cycle can stall or restart the same stage repeatedly instead of finishing.
Check Water Flow First
A partially blocked lower filter or a kinked supply line reduces flow enough that the machine’s sensor never sees the water pressure it’s waiting for, so it keeps re-running the same wash stage. Pulling and rinsing the filter basket resolves a meaningful share of these stalls on its own.
SmartWash Sensor Faults
If the filter is clean and the stall continues, the SmartWash soil sensor itself may be reporting bad data to the control board, which can make an otherwise normal cycle look permanently dirty to the machine.
When TurboDry Adds Time Instead of Finishing
On TurboDry-equipped models, a cycle that seems to hang at the drying stage is often the fan-assist drying step running longer than expected because of a heating-element or vent fault, not the wash portion itself.
