What F6 / F16 (721-prefix Elite double oven) Means
F6 and F16 on Kenmore Elite 721-prefix double-oven ranges report a cavity running above 650 degrees Fahrenheit in bake or broil — F6 for the upper oven, F16 for the lower. Those are temperatures neither mode should reach.
Common Causes of F6 / F16 (721-prefix Elite double oven)
- A stuck relay holding a heating element energised
- An oven temperature sensor reading well below the true temperature
- A control board fault on the affected cavity
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Switch the range off at the breaker and let both cavities cool; an over-temperature report is not one to confirm by trying another bake.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Leave the power off until the cause is found — a cavity that has passed 650 degrees in bake mode is not behaving safely.
- On the gas version, close the appliance gas valve before any panel is removed.
- A double oven holds a great deal of heat, so the cooling wait before access is longer than on a single cavity.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
