What 9-3 / 9-4 / F9E3 / F9E4 (Whirlpool-built HE) Means
9-3 and F9E3 on Whirlpool-built Kenmore HE dishwashers report the diverter disc as missing, while 9-4 and F9E4 report the lower spray arm as obstructed or unable to turn.
Common Causes of 9-3 / 9-4 / F9E3 / F9E4 (Whirlpool-built HE)
- A utensil or plate edge blocking the lower spray arm
- Spray arm jets blocked with debris or scale
- A diverter disc dislodged or missing from the sump
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Take the lower rack out and spin the lower spray arm by hand; a tall item hanging through the rack or a jammed utensil stops it turning, and that is an entirely visible cause.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Reaching the diverter disc means removing the racks, spray arm, manifold and pump cover in sequence, which is easy to reassemble wrongly.
- Cut power at the breaker before any part of the sump is disturbed.
- A spray arm that has been forced back onto its spindle often cracks and leaks pressure thereafter.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
