What F6 E2 / F6 E3 (110 / Whirlpool-built VMAX) Means
F6 E2 and F6 E3 on the Whirlpool-built VMAX dryer both mean the electronic control board and the console have lost contact with each other. Neither part is necessarily broken; the link between them has stopped working.
Common Causes of F6 E2 / F6 E3 (110 / Whirlpool-built VMAX)
- The harness between console and control board unseated or chafed
- A corroded or bent pin at either connector
- A failed communication section on one of the two boards
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Cut power at the breaker for five minutes and restore it — a link fault that reappears immediately is wiring or a board rather than a passing upset.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Both boards sit behind the console on live circuits, and on gas models the gas is shut off before panel work as well.
- A ribbon pinched during reassembly creates a harder fault to find than the one you were chasing.
- Guessing which end has failed is a coin toss between two parts at very different prices.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
