What FE (796 / LG-built) Means
FE on a 796-prefix LG-built Kenmore washer means the tub has filled past the allowed level. Documented behaviour is that the drain pump then runs continuously — the machine is emptying itself faster than it is filling while it waits for help.
Common Causes of FE (796 / LG-built)
- An inlet valve no longer shutting off completely
- A water level sensor reading lower than the true level
- A stuck relay leaving an inlet valve energised
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Shut both supply taps at once. If the tub keeps filling with the taps closed, the problem is the household plumbing; if it stops, an inlet valve is leaking through.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Close the water before anything else and leave the machine powered so it can keep pumping down.
- Pulling the plug on a full tub stops the pump and leaves a cabinet of water with electrics underneath it.
- Separating a leaking valve from a mis-reading sensor needs the level circuit measured, which is inside-cabinet work.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
