What nd / nF / OE (402-prefix) Means
The 402-prefix Kenmore front-loader speaks a code language of its own, different again from the 110 and 796 platforms: nd for a tub that has not drained within fifteen minutes, nF for a fill problem, and OE for a water overflow.
Common Causes of nd / nF / OE (402-prefix)
- A blocked drain path or clogged large item filter
- A supply tap closed or a fill hose restricted
- An inlet valve leaking through and overfilling the tub
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For nd, clear the large item filter and check the household drain; for nF, open both supply taps fully; for OE, close the taps immediately and see whether filling stops.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- On an overflow, shut the water before anything else and leave the machine powered so it can pump itself down.
- Unplug the washer before the filter door is opened, since that panel sits at floor level beside the cord entry.
- Parts for the 402 platform do not interchange with 110 or 796 models, so the prefix is quoted with every order.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
