What E2 Means
E2 typically points to an IGBT (power module) overheat condition — commonly triggered when a zone runs at a high power level for an extended stretch and the ventilation underneath the cooktop isn't adequate to dissipate the heat.
Common Causes of E2
- Inadequate ventilation clearance in the cabinet below the cooktop
- Extended use at a high power level on one or more zones
- Failed cooling fan for the power electronics, on models that have one
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Give the cooktop a break between high-power uses and confirm the cabinet space underneath has the clearance your installation manual specifies — restricted underneath ventilation is a common, fully external cause.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The IGBT power module sits directly beneath the glass surface and handles significant current — not a component to access without the unit fully de-energized and proper testing equipment.
- Replacing the power module without addressing an underlying ventilation problem means the same overheat, and the same code, returns on the next extended use.
- Modules of this type are also one of the pricier cooktop parts, making a confirmed diagnosis worth doing before ordering.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
