What C4 / C5 (362 and 363 prefix) Means
On 362- and 363-prefix Kenmore dishwashers, C4 reports the tub as overfilled and C5 reports the opposite — a drain that finished too quickly because the machine was underfilled in the first place.
Common Causes of C4 / C5 (362 and 363 prefix)
- A water supply valve only part open
- An overfill float stuck up or held down by debris
- A water inlet valve no longer opening or no longer closing
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For C5, check the water supply shut-off valve under the sink is fully open, and lift the overfill float inside the tub to see that it moves freely.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Shut off the water and the breaker before the toe panel comes away; the inlet valve is plumbed and wired in the same place.
- On an overfill, cancelling the cycle and letting the machine drain comes before anything is opened.
- Telling a stuck float from a failed valve needs the circuit measured, which is not an inside-the-tub job.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
