What EA1 / EA2 / EA3 / EB1 / EB2 / EB3 (417-prefix) Means
These codes on 417-prefix Kenmore front-loaders are unusual in that they point outside the machine: they report incoming supply frequency out of limits, line voltage above roughly 130 volts, or line voltage below roughly 90 to 100 volts.
Common Causes of EA1 / EA2 / EA3 / EB1 / EB2 / EB3 (417-prefix)
- Household supply voltage genuinely outside the machine's window
- A long or undersized extension lead dropping voltage under load
- A supply-sensing fault on the electronic control board
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Notice whether house lights dim or flicker when other appliances start, and whether the washer is on an extension lead — both are worth reporting, because the fault may not be in the washer at all.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Household wiring and supply problems belong to a qualified electrician rather than an appliance repair, and mixing the two wastes a visit.
- Running a washer on a marginal supply shortens the life of every board in it, so this is not a code to ignore.
- Replacing the control board first, when the supply is genuinely out of range, damages the new board as well.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
