What Ld / LF (Calypso) Means
On the Whirlpool-built Calypso top-loader that Kenmore sold in the early 2000s, Ld reports a drain taking too long and LF a fill taking too long. Plenty of these machines are two decades old now and the codes are as relevant as they ever were.
Common Causes of Ld / LF (Calypso)
- A supply tap part closed or a fill hose kinked
- A blocked household drain or a kinked drain hose
- A drain pump obstructed or failing after long service
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For a fill complaint, open both taps fully and check for kinked hoses; for a drain complaint, clear the household standpipe and the machine's own hose before suspecting the pump.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the machine before any panel comes off — a twenty-year-old cabinet often has tired insulation on its internal wiring.
- Parts for the Calypso are thinner on the ground than for later platforms, so a confirmed diagnosis matters more before ordering.
- A pump replaced when a slow house drain is the real limit performs no better than the one removed.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
