What E10 / E11 / E12 / EAF (417-prefix) Means
On 417-prefix Kenmore dryers — the platform that uses E-codes rather than Whirlpool F-codes — E10, E11 and E12 all report a control board communication error, and EAF reports the electronic control board as failed outright.
Common Causes of E10 / E11 / E12 / EAF (417-prefix)
- A communication fault on the electronic control board
- A harness between the board and the console damaged or unseated
- Surge damage from an unstable household supply
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the dryer for five minutes, restore power and start a cycle; the published route begins there, and a code that returns has confirmed a genuine board problem.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The board is live with the cord connected, and on gas models the gas is shut off at the appliance valve before panels are removed.
- 417-prefix boards do not interchange with Whirlpool-built Kenmore dryers, so the prefix is quoted on every order.
- Replacing a board before ruling out its harness is the commonest wasted purchase on this fault.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
