What F1 / F2 / F8 / F4 / F5 / F18 (721-prefix Elite double oven) Means
Kenmore Elite 721-prefix double-oven ranges give each cavity its own sensor codes: F1, F2 and F8 report a defective upper oven temperature sensor, while F4, F5 and F18 report the lower one. The published reference resistance for both is around 1,090 ohms.
Common Causes of F1 / F2 / F8 / F4 / F5 / F18 (721-prefix Elite double oven)
- An oven temperature sensor out of its resistance window
- A damaged sensor harness behind that cavity
- An oven control board no longer reading the sensor circuit
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Note which cavity is misbehaving before you call; on a double oven that single fact halves the diagnosis.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Let both cavities cool and cut power at the breaker before any rear panel is removed.
- On the gas version, close the appliance gas valve before panel work as well as isolating the power.
- The two cavities share control architecture, so careless work on one side can introduce a fault on the other.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
