What F1 / F3 / F9 (790-prefix, two-digit display) Means
The simplest 790-prefix Kenmore ranges use a three-code set: F1 for an oven temperature sensor failure or a failed electronic oven control board, F3 for the sensor alone, and F9 for a door lock failure. The published reset is thirty seconds without power.
Common Causes of F1 / F3 / F9 (790-prefix, two-digit display)
- An oven temperature sensor out of its resistance range
- A failed electronic oven control board
- A door lock assembly or its harness no longer operating
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Unplug the range or switch it off at the breaker for thirty seconds and restore power; a code that returns after that has confirmed a genuine fault rather than a momentary upset.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Let the cavity cool and cut power at the breaker before the rear panel is removed to reach the sensor.
- On a gas range, close the appliance gas valve before panel work as well as cutting the power.
- F1 on this chart covers both sensor and board, so ordering a board without a sensor test is a real risk of overspending.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
