What 2-1 / 2-2 / F2E1 / F2E2 (Whirlpool-built HE) Means
The 2-series on Whirlpool-built Kenmore HE dishwashers covers the console: 2-1 and F2E1 for a button the control reads as stuck, and 2-2 and F2E2 for the user interface losing contact with the electronic control board altogether.
Common Causes of 2-1 / 2-2 / F2E1 / F2E2 (Whirlpool-built HE)
- A membrane key stuck down or no longer responding
- The ribbon between user interface and control board unseated
- Steam having worked past the console seal over the years
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Press every button on the panel in turn and note any that do not respond or do not spring back; wipe the panel and let it dry before trying again.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The console and its ribbon are inside the door panel, on circuits that are live whenever the breaker is on.
- Replacing a whole user interface without identifying which key failed is a costly guess.
- A ribbon pinched while the door panel is reassembled creates a harder fault than the original.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
