What CA / CI / LS / Ob (Calypso) Means
Four Calypso displays worth knowing together: CA and CI for a drive motor that has locked up, LS when Start is pressed with the lid open, and Ob for an unbalanced load. Overloading is named as a cause of the motor lock-up on this platform.
Common Causes of CA / CI / LS / Ob (Calypso)
- A basket packed tightly enough to stop the motor turning
- A worn or failed lid switch
- Laundry bunched to one side of the wash plate
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For CA or CI, take some laundry out and try again, loading the basket loosely rather than packing it; for Ob, redistribute the load; for LS, simply close the lid before pressing Start.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Repeated attempts to start against a locked motor heat the windings on a machine whose parts are increasingly scarce.
- Bypassing a tired lid switch removes the only interlock stopping the basket moving with the lid up.
- Lid switch wiring on a machine of this age is often brittle, so it is disturbed only with the cord out.
