What dL / E6 (796 / LG-built top-load) Means
On the LG-built top-loaders Kenmore sold under 796-prefix numbers, dL reports that the lid lock could not engage and E6 reports a fault in the clutch motor that switches the drive between agitation and spin. Both stop the cycle, for different reasons.
Common Causes of dL / E6 (796 / LG-built top-load)
- Debris blocking the lid lock strike
- A failed lid lock assembly
- A clutch motor or its wiring no longer responding to the control
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For dL, unplug the machine and clear any lint or debris from the lock recess at the rim; for E6 there is no external check, but noting whether the drum agitates, spins, or does neither is genuinely useful.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Both the lock and the clutch are wired to the main board, so the cord comes out before either is reached.
- The clutch sits in the drive stack underneath the machine, which is heavy and unstable while the tub holds water.
- Defeating the lid lock to get a load finished removes the interlock that keeps hands out of a spinning basket.
