What EF2 / EF6 / EF8 (417-prefix) Means
This trio on 417-prefix Kenmore front-loaders collects three unrelated nuisances: EF2 for too much detergent foam, EF6 for a control reset, and EF8 for a button on the console stuck down.
Common Causes of EF2 / EF6 / EF8 (417-prefix)
- Too much detergent, or detergent without the HE mark
- A momentary supply interruption prompting a control reset
- Residue or a failed membrane holding a console key down
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For EF2, halve your detergent dose and make sure it carries the HE mark; for EF8, press each key in turn and wipe away anything dried under its edge.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A key that will not free up sits on a membrane behind the console, where the wiring is live with the cord connected.
- Replacing a whole user interface without identifying the stuck key is an expensive way to guess.
- Adding a defoamer to chase EF2 hides whether the drain path is also contributing.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
