What F21 Means
F21 is a long-drain fault on Whirlpool-built Kenmore washers — the machine has detected that it's taking too long to pump water out of the tub and has stopped the cycle rather than risk an overflow.

🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check the drain hose behind the machine for kinks, and clear the small coin trap/pump filter at the front-bottom of the machine if your model has one — this resolves a large share of F21 cases.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The pump filter panel sits low on the machine near the power cord routing — working there without unplugging first is a shock risk.
- Standing water in the tub adds significant weight, which can make the machine unstable if tilted for access during a DIY fix.
- A filter cap that won't budge usually means it's cross-threaded, not stuck — forcing it snaps the plastic and turns a quick clean into buying a whole new filter housing.
- Pushing a lodged object further in rather than backing it out can lodge it against the impeller and stall the pump motor outright.
- If clearing the filter doesn't resolve it, opening the pump housing further typically involves warranty-voiding disassembly.
