What dr / dF (111-prefix) Means
On 111-prefix Kenmore bottom-freezer refrigerators, dr means the control has seen a refrigerator door open for more than an hour and dF the same for the freezer door. Either a door genuinely is ajar, or a door switch has stopped reporting.
Common Causes of dr / dF (111-prefix)
- A door genuinely left ajar by a tall item or an overfull drawer
- A failed door switch no longer detecting the closed position
- Damaged wiring between a door switch and the control board
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Walk round the appliance and press each door firmly shut, checking that nothing on a shelf or in a drawer is holding it open a fraction; watch whether the interior light goes out as each door closes.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the refrigerator before a door switch is levered out; the switch wiring returns to a live control board.
- Prising a switch from its recess with a screwdriver usually cracks the surrounding trim.
- A switch replaced while a sagging door is the real cause fails again quite soon.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
