What ES / d2 (111-prefix) Means
Two very different 111-prefix displays: ES reports a dispenser failure, typically a stuck Water or Ice button which shows as the indicator toggling on its own through the selections; d2 is not a fault at all but confirmation that the appliance is in forced defrost mode, which ends automatically once an evaporator reaches 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
Common Causes of ES / d2 (111-prefix)
- A dispenser button stuck in its housing
- A failed user interface board behind the dispenser panel
- Forced defrost mode entered deliberately during a service check
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
For ES, press the Water and Ice buttons in several spots around their edges to free a stuck key; for d2, simply wait, because the mode ends by itself.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the appliance before the dispenser panel is prised away; the user interface board behind it is live.
- Forcing a stuck dispenser button harder usually breaks the membrane underneath it.
- Interrupting a forced defrost part way leaves melt water on the coil to refreeze.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
