What F1 Lo / F1 Hi (111-prefix) Means
On 111-prefix Kenmore bottom-freezer refrigerators, F1 Lo and F1 Hi report the freezer compartment temperature sensor as reading outside its allowed window. The published range is roughly 1,000 to 40,000 ohms measured through the sensor circuit from the control board.
Common Causes of F1 Lo / F1 Hi (111-prefix)
- A freezer temperature sensor out of its resistance range
- A broken wire between the sensor and the control board
- A control board no longer reading the sensor circuit accurately
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Before assuming a sensor, clear any food or packaging pressed against the freezer's rear vents; blocked airflow produces readings that look like a sensor complaint.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the refrigerator before any interior panel is removed — the sensor harness runs back to a board that is live on the wall socket.
- Sensor wiring inside a freezer cabinet passes close to refrigerant tubing, and a pierced line is a far bigger repair than a sensor.
- Fitting a sensor without checking its harness reproduces the identical reading.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
