What i5 Lo / i5 Hi / iD Lo / iD Hi (111-prefix) Means
On 111-prefix Kenmore bottom-freezer refrigerators, i5 Lo and i5 Hi report the ice maker's own temperature sensor and iD Lo and iD Hi the separate ice room sensor. The detail that matters commercially is that the i5 sensor is part of the ice maker and is not available on its own.
Common Causes of i5 Lo / i5 Hi / iD Lo / iD Hi (111-prefix)
- An ice maker sensor failed, taking the whole ice maker with it as a part
- The ice room sensor out of its resistance range
- Wiring between ice maker and control board damaged
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check the ice maker for a solid block of fused ice or a jammed cube before anything else, since a blocked ice compartment changes what the sensors read.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the refrigerator before the ice maker or its housing is disturbed; the harness runs to a live control board.
- Because the i5 sensor is only sold as part of the ice maker, a sensor diagnosis here carries an ice maker price.
- Chipping fused ice out with a metal tool punctures the mould and turns one repair into two.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
