What rL / OU / F34 (110 / Whirlpool-built front-load) Means
rL, OU and F34 all say the same thing on the Whirlpool-built 110-prefix front-load platform: the tub-cleaning cycle has been started with laundry still inside. The cycle runs hot and long by design and is meant for an empty drum.
Common Causes of rL / OU / F34 (110 / Whirlpool-built front-load)
- Laundry left in the drum when the tub-clean cycle was selected
- An item hidden under the boot seal that the control still senses as load
- The cleaning cycle chosen by accident instead of a normal wash
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Open the door, take everything out of the drum including anything caught in the seal, and restart the cleaning cycle.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Running a tub-clean cycle over a real load exposes the fabric to a long, very hot run it was never intended for.
- If the drum is genuinely empty and the code persists, the load-sensing side of the machine needs checking instead.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
