What Er IF Means
Er IF appears on LG-built Kenmore refrigerators (commonly the 795 model series) and points to an ice-maker fan fault — the fan that circulates cold air through the ice-maker compartment isn't reporting normal rotation to the control board.
Common Causes of Er IF
- Ice-maker fan motor failure
- Fan blade physically obstructed by stored food or ice buildup
- Damaged wiring to the fan motor
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check that nothing stored in the freezer is pressed against the ice-maker compartment or blocking its airflow vent — if the code returns after clearing that, the fan itself has likely failed.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The ice-maker compartment sits behind interior panels wired directly into the control board, so testing it live carries a real shock risk.
- A fan swapped without confirming the obstruction is actually cleared can leave the exact same code active after the part is replaced.
- Misreading this as a different LG fault code (there are several similarly-formatted Er-prefixed codes) can lead to ordering the wrong part entirely.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
