What Main Board LED 1, 2 or 3 Flickers (111-prefix top-freezer) Means
The 111-prefix Kenmore top-freezer refrigerator has no code display at all. It reports faults by flickering an LED on the main control board: one flicker for the refrigerator temperature sensor, two for the ambient sensor mounted at the top of the cabinet, three for the defrost sensor on the evaporator.
Common Causes of Main Board LED 1, 2 or 3 Flickers (111-prefix top-freezer)
- A temperature sensor outside its 5,000 to 40,000 ohm window
- Damaged wiring between a sensor and the main control board
- A control board no longer reading a sensor circuit correctly
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
This is one to describe rather than investigate — the LED sits behind the control board cover, and the documentation is explicit that nothing inside should be touched while the appliance is plugged in.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The main control board is connected to electricity whenever the refrigerator is plugged in, and the cover has to be off to see the LED at all.
- Counting flickers with the cover removed means working beside live terminals with both hands occupied.
- A sensor replaced without its harness checked reproduces the same flicker count.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
