What r1 Lo / r1 Hi (111-prefix) Means
r1 Lo and r1 Hi on 111-prefix Kenmore bottom-freezer refrigerators report the fresh-food compartment temperature sensor as outside specification. The published resistance window for this one is roughly 8,000 to 40,000 ohms, which is a different band from the freezer sensor.
Common Causes of r1 Lo / r1 Hi (111-prefix)
- A refrigerator compartment sensor drifted out of range
- Damaged wiring between sensor and control board
- A control board misreading an otherwise healthy sensor
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check that nothing is stacked against the rear wall vents in the fresh-food section and that the door seals are closing cleanly all the way round.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Unplug the appliance before the rear interior panel is disturbed; that panel conceals live wiring back to the board.
- The two compartment sensors use different resistance windows, so testing one against the other's figures gives a wrong answer.
- Panel access inside the cabinet may affect any remaining coverage — check your terms before starting.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
